Rippling’s rapid growth and global expansion required a background check partner that could scale seamlessly and evolve with shifting needs.

From the start, Checkr has supported Rippling’s unique hiring demands: high volume, global reach, and tight compliance controls.

We’re hiring across go-to-market, engineering, and other roles around the world. Having Checkr manage global background check complexity—and provide country-specific turnaround time data—has been incredibly helpful as we’ve grown into 15–20 countries.

As Rippling evolved, so did its use of Checkr—upgrading packages, adding new checks like employment and education verification, and tailoring workflows for role-specific needs (e.g., interns, contractors, etc.).

Checkr is tightly integrated with Rippling’s internal workflows. Once a candidate signs their offer, the correct Checkr package is automatically triggered based on work location and role type.

Rippling also uses its own internal dashboard to monitor status (not results), while Checkr handles adjudication and data.

Everything happens automatically with very little intervention from myself or another team member. I don’t have to run reports or chase data—it’s all real-time.

Alerts and deadline-based workflows keep everyone aligned—whether it's HR, recruiters, or hiring managers—ensuring that candidates are cleared before day one.

As Rippling’s internal standards became more rigorous, Checkr’s flexibility allowed the HR team to tighten its process—without sacrificing speed.

By collaborating with legal and security teams, Rippling redesigned its packages to include:

  • Seven-year county lookbacks
  • Federal and national criminal checks
  • Education & employment verifications

We realized that if we’re paying for background checks, they should give us everything we need to make safe, informed decisions. Checkr gave us the flexibility to update and adapt quickly.

Today, Rippling confidently adheres to consistent adjudication standards—backed by transparent data and a system built to minimize human error.

As Rippling’s hiring volume and compliance standards grew, maintaining consistency in adjudication became a bigger challenge. With Checkr Assess, Rippling automated much of that manual review process—reducing time spent on adjudication by roughly 95% while strengthening confidence in fair, consistent decision-making.

Turning on Assess was one of my happiest days. It’s taken all [of the repetitive report reviewing] off my plate and ensures consistency [in hiring decisions]. It’s really such a gift.

Setting up Assess was quick and straightforward. Rippling’s HR and legal teams reviewed each available filter, decided what mattered for their policy, and turned it on—all in under an hour.

We basically spent 15 minutes going through everything we could filter out, made quick decisions with legal, and felt the change immediately,” said Shimberg.

Before Assess, Shimberg spent about 15 minutes every day reviewing background check results. Now, it’s closer to five minutes a week—and every alert that comes through is meaningful.

With Assess, I know that if I get an email saying a candidate needs review, it’s for something that actually matters. I’m not scrolling through 15 different results for things we’ve already decided aren’t risks. It’s truly a game changer.

Candidates receive their Checkr invite immediately after signing, can track their own progress, upload documents, and view results—without needing to loop in recruiting or HR.

It’s just so simple. We get very few questions about background checks from candidates. They can manage it all independently in one place—and that’s by design.
