In this section, we will explore opportunities for styling text using CSS.

We will be creating captions for photos and beautiful text design elements, and we will also examine some techniques for styling long-form texts.

First, let’s create a small comic strip. It will consist of just four graphic symbols that will introduce us to the story of the main character of the comic, the emoticon.

But where do we get the graphic symbols? This is where the Unicode encoding comes in handy. In addition to the characters that we can find on our keyboard, the Unicode encoding standard also contains characters from almost all written languages as well as various special characters. In HTML markup, we can write any Unicode character using special character codes: either a word, such as, for example, &name;, or a string of numbers using a decimal or hexadecimal code, such as, for example, à.

Examples of Unicode characters:

©©©ααᶶ¶

There is even a special service that helps you find and copy the desired character.

Now that we have figured out the theory, let’s create a comic about the adventures of an emoticon.
